Nigeria’s Team Humane, Others Qualify for Microsoft’s Imagine Cup Finals

Nigeria’s Team humane from the University of Ife, has qualified for the finals of Microsoft’s premier global student technology competition, Imagine Cup. The Imagine Cup is a tech competition that brings together young developers with inspiring and creative ideas, as they attempt to mold the world around them through the power of technology. This year, 35 teams will bring their unique visions for the future to Seattle to compete in the Imagine Cup World Finals from July 26 – 29.Team-Humane

Team Humane which falls under the world citizenship category will be presenting their ingenious app designed to help the visually impaired navigate their smart phones. The solution which comes with an accompanying hardware known as the humane handle interacts with apps installed on a device using Bluetooth. With this the  visually impaired would be able to navigate through the various apps installed on their  mobile phone using the handle and an integrated voice navigation system.

Other teams in the world championship category include: Team Yuuy–Singapore; Team Home Guardians; Team Derma Track; Team Amanda-Greece; Team Medcases- Hungary; Team Psyllosoft; Team Boneycare – China; Team VRMotion- Germany; Team Another Team- Ecuador; Team EyeUs- Mexico; The Humane Team- Nigeria; Team Night Watch-Tunisia; and, Team Ishoo – Tawain.

To get to this point, more than 150 top teams from National Finals events went on to the  World Semifinals, where they were judged by a global panel of MVPs, industry experts and Microsoft staff.  At the World Finals, the remaining teams will compete to be crowned as the champions in their respective categories and the chance to win $50,000(N14m) and then, one team will go on to win the coveted Imagine Cup and the grand prize, a private mentoring session with Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella.

According to Microsoft,”The ingenuity of this year’s World Finalist teams is impressive. From incredible game concepts, to life-saving devices, to solutions that could revolutionise the way we do business – no one will leave Imagine Cup untouched or uninspired by these ideas by the time the competition is over and a new champion is chosen.”

Yet another inventive category in the competition is Games and the finalists include:  Team None Developers-Indonesia; Team PH21Thailand; Team Tower Ups-Brazil; Team Vanguard-Bahrain;Team Digital Interactive-South Africa; Team shooting Star Studio-Spain; Team Infinite Pizza-Russia; and, Team Studio Attic South Korea.

The last class in the competition is Innovation: Team Black Ai-Australia; Team Clove- New Zealand; Team Bit Master-Sri Lanka; Team ENTy-Romania; Team KinectGarten Hong Kong; Team Bionic Scope Japan, Team ImeiDB Guatemala; Team BasiliskTunisia; Team AnalytiKids –Turkey; Team Healthx-United States; and, Team Dark Side Ducks– Italy.
