OLX Showcases New Paid Feature ‘Top Ads’
Leading online classifieds, OLX Nigeria recently introduced a new feature named ‘Top Ads” on the OLX site , which it showcased at the 35th Lagos International Trade Fair.

Top Ads is a new paid feature that gives users the opportunity to increase the visibility of their ads to potential buyers as Top Ads retain the top three positions on the listing page for a given period.

Speaking at the Trade Fair, Uche Nwagboso, PR & Communication Lead, OLX, stated that “We are very excited to introduce Top Ads to our users,  this is another product to help our users sell their items quickly and easily  “ With Top Ads users get seven times more views and 10 times more replies than regular ads and when a potential buyer click on a Top Ad they see a link to all the user’s other ads.

OLX users are quickly adopting the use of Top Ads and an OLX User Obinna Martins recently sold his iPad Mini in two days using the OLX Top Ad service. He was extremely please with the product as he paid for a three day plan and sold on the second day.

Top Ads ( comes with a minimal fee for OLX users and differ per category and number of days users want their Top Ads live.


Etisalat Introduces Self-Service Platform ‘MyEtisalat’

Etisalat Nigeria has launched a revolutionary state-of-the-art online self-service platform known as ‘MyEtisalat’ in furtherance of its unwavering commitment to continuously deliver superior experience to subscribers on the network.

Speaking at a demo event to unveil the platform, Otuyemi Otule, Chief Product and Information Officer, Etisalat Nigeria, said the platform is an industry game changer as it simplifies the experience and journey of Etisalat customers across its various digital platforms. Etisalat self-service platform gives our customers full access to their account information and available services.

He added that the platform which can be accessed via an app and on the Web empowers Etisalat customers with a vast bouquet of features and functions which allow them to manage all their Etisalat services without the need to remember, text or dial codes.

“The platform was developed as a result of intelligence generated from customer feedback and surveys. This is proof that Etisalat is a brand that cares about what its customers are saying and feeling and strives to respond to their feedback”, he said.


Glo Subscribers Can Now Borrow Data

Globacom has unveiled a new product, ‘Borrow Me Data’, that would enable its customers stay connected anytime of the day and night, even if they run out of airtime.

According to the Globacom’s Head, Usage and Retention, Mr. Sola Arowogbadamu, all subscribers can enjoy ‘Borrow Me Data’ once they meet the conditions, depending on how long they have been on the Glo network and their average monthly data usage.

He said, with the Glo ‘Borrow Me Data’, subscribers could receive data packages up to 2GB on credit from the network, depending on previous average data subscriptions.

To use the new product, Globacom said all the subscriber would need to do is to dial *321# and make his choice from the popped-up options. The customer would be required to repay the data credit on his next airtime recharge.

Globacom also announced a number of new products such as ‘11k Per Second for All’, new ‘IDD Packs’ and ‘Double Free Tomorrow’.


Digital Encode Receive Georgia Honorary Award

The duo of Oluseyi Akindeinde and Obadare Peter Adewale ,founders of Digital Encode, a leading consulting and integration firm that specialises in the design, management, and security of business-critical networks, telecommunications environments and other Information Technology (IT) infrastructures, have been conferred with “Honorary Georgia Citizen” .The partners also received the keys to the cities of Georgia by the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, USA.

Presenting the certificates, Dee Dawkins-Haigler, Chairman, Georgia Legislative Black Caucasus, said that the award was given to Digital Encode founders in recognition of their outstanding entrepreneurship contributions and leadership towards the growth and development of Information and communications technology sector, free enterprise and the private sector as agents of social change in Nigeria, and their passion towards economic empowerment of the citizenry.

Airtel Enhances Smartconnect Package

Airtel Nigeria has rejigged its Smart Connect package, specifically designed to give new customers six times the value on every recharge to include a family and friends feature. To enjoy the family and friends bonuses on every recharge, Customers should add up to four Airtel numbers as Family & Friends, by dialing *311*2*Airtel Number#. To enjoy the free social bonus on every recharge, customers need to install Whatsapp, Twitter, Facebook and BBM on their phones.

SmartConnect is Airtel’s premium default bonus plan specifically designed for new prepaid customers. Once a customer buys a new SIM, registers and inserts it in a device, he/she begins to enjoy the 6 times bonus in addition to other bonuses on every recharge of N100 and above.

When a customer recharges with N100, he/she gets N100 in his main account and receives a bonus of N250 for voice calls to all networks, N250 for data (50MB), with an additional N100 airtime to call family & friends, and an extra bonus of N100 for Whatsapp, Twitter, Facebook and BBM, which makes a total of N800 airtime on every N100 recharge. A recharge of N1000 gives N2,500 bonus for calls to all networks, another N2,500 bonus for data (500MB) and N1000 airtime for calls to family & friends. Customers will also receive extra N1000 airtime for access to social media.

 According to Airtel, airtime in the main account will remain valid until exhausted while all bonuses have a 7-day validity. Mutlichoice Returns with Big Brother Naija

MultiChoice Nigeria has announced the return of the Nigerian reality TV show based on the Big Brother TV series; Big Brother Nigeria. Now referred to as Big Brother Naija, the show is returning after a ten year break.

Speaking on this latest development, Managing Director, MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe said the return of the show is one of the ways the company is enhancing the quality and variety of contents available on its platforms.

According to him, the show has been well developed following the successes of past seasons of Big Brother Africa.“Big Brother Africa was popular for its entertainment value and ability to showcase ordinary Africans from different walks of life. We decided to re-invent the reality show once again by bringing back the Nigerian version which we are confident will draw pan-African audiences for the same reasons that Big Brother Africa did”.

In the first edition of the show, twelve housemates vied for the coveted $100,000(N31.5m) prize money by performing various mental and physical tasks. At the end of a three-month stay in the house, Katung Aduwak emerged winner.  The show also produced other notable stars such as Africa Magic’s Tinsel actor, Gideon Okeke, and TV personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.

Ugbe revealed that auditions for Big Brother Naija will hold in Lagos on November 26 and 27 as more information on the show will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Big Brother Naija is sponsored by online retail store, PayPorte and will air on dedicated event channels on DStv and GOtv in January 2017.


nTel Launches VOXHD App

nTel has launched a VoxHD app to further enable its customers to enjoy crisp and clear calling experiences and SMS services.

Speaking on the launch of the application, Kamar Abass, ntel Chief Executive Officer said:“This is the first time a Voice Over LTE application that is native to a Nigerian network is being hosted on Google Play Store…the application avails our customers of crystal clear high definition VoLTE calls, Short Message Service (SMS over LTE) as well as other traditional features expected from a cellular voice service. With this application, our customers can make and receive HD voice calls, send and receive SMS on their ntel line, with any compatible 4G device, anywhere within our coverage areas.”

You will need a compatible 4g device and an nTel sim to be able to fully the VoLTE and SMS over LTE service.The app is presently available to only Android users but if you are an iPhone user, you will have to wait a bit as the iOS version of the app is currently in the works.
