Xiaomi is best known in Nigeria for its budget-friendly smartphones, but what some of you don’t know is that the Chinese phone manufacturing company also has its hands on other tech products, such as smart TVs, fitness trackers, action cameras and lots more.
The latest product coming from the stable of Xiaomi is the ‘ Mi Notebook Air’- N225,000($750) , a notebook that comes with a discrete graphics- Nvidia GeForce 940MX, 256GB solid state drive and 8GB of RAM.
Unlike other laptops in its class lacking discrete graphics and relying on Intel’s integrated graphics to do the background work, the 13.3-inch Mi Notebook Air enables you to play games like Dota 2 at 85 frames-per-second at full-HD resolution. Mi Notebook Air was designed to fill a niche, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun said.
Mi Notebook Air runs Windows 10 and syncs with Xiaomi Mi Cloud and can be unlocked with the Mi Band 2 fitness tracker . You also get a full-size keyboard and a multi-touch glass trackpad.
Clothed in a stylish gold and silver aluminium, the system has a 12.5-inch version which is slightly thinner and lighter at 12.9 mm and 1.07 kg .The 12.5-inch comes with a 128GB SSD, 4GB RAM , Intel Core-M processor and lacks discrete graphics. At N163, 000($520), you only get one USB 3.0 ports instead of two; but you still have an HDMI port.

Eve though, IDC isn’t too optimistic about China’s notebook market, the research firm expects the Chinese consumer notebook market to contract by 10.4 percent this year against the -7.7 percent in the US and -9.3 percent worldwide. But Xiaomi isn’t discouraged by these predictions. The Mi Notebook Air will be available for sale in China starting from 2 August, but no news yet on the global release.
